About Ray Castlehow

I joined the Prison Service in 2019 with my home establishment is HMP Lindholme. During
this time, I have worked on all the 10 wings at Lindholme and have been on detachments at
Hindley, Leeds, Wayland (twice), Ranby and Wealstun. This has been a positive for my
development and allowed me to see how other prisons work and identify the needs of Prison
and probation staff at different establishments.

I first became aware of the Criminal Justice Workers Union whilst at Wayland three years
ago. I investigated the CJWUnion and saw something different to the alternatives. I could
see the HMPPS recognised unions did some good work nationally, but locally there was
always something negative. My choice was to join the CJWUnion, I have had nothing but
good support from the union and you can tell the reps are passionate about the union and
the members.

I became a local CJWUnion representative because I wanted to give something back to the
local members at Lindholme.
Now as a nation Executive Committee member, I believe I can bring a great deal to an
already strong and dedicated group, to see that the members have a voice and are treated
fairly.

I look forward to working for the members who elected me and with other like minded
individuals who know what its like to work within HMPPS.

Join us and be a part of a union that truly represents you.
