The Criminal Justice Workers Union are aware of “the 2023 joint protocol of professional standards engagement between HMPPS and recognised trade unions” email which has been distributed to all HMPPS staffing groups.

This Protocol has no effect on the CJWUnion’s rights under ACAS legislation to support, advise and represent our members in their place of work.

In a time when recognized trade unions and HMPPS are advertising their positive relationship and commitment to professional standards of engagement, we’ve seen an erosion of pay, decrease in staffing in both prisons and probation, mass resignations, increase in detached duty at a cost of £1 million a month, worsening conditions, numerous unsatisfactory HMIP reports, reduced safety, and poor outcomes for many staff in investigations, grievances, and FARM’s.

The CJWUnion is an independent Trade Union, offering an alternative to our membership, this enable us to work proactively with all employers within the criminal justice sector.
